SwipedOn: Tech in Tauranga

It’s no secret that attracting and retaining employees has become increasingly difficult. Talent shortages and a competitive hiring market have meant that many companies have had to take a close look at exactly what they are offering, in order to stay competitive.

SwipedOn specialises in workplace sign in software, and since 2015 they have been proudly headquartered in the Bay of Plenty, where the team has grown to almost 40. Operating in the tech industry means there are certain perks that prospective staff expect, but the team at SwipedOn has taken it a step further in a bid to attract talent who might be hesitant to relocate out of the larger centres.

In addition to complimentary espresso coffee, smoothies, and snacks, the dress code is casual and there’s a relaxed vibe in the office. They also walk the walk when it comes to offering a hybrid work option with most staff choosing to work remotely at least some of the time.

“Quality of life is important to us – that’s a big reason why most of us are in this industry and the Bay of Plenty. We think that we should be able to reduce our working hours so that we can do more of what we love outside work. In a nutshell, we want to lift the energy and delivery across the business, while reducing the time spent doing our jobs.” says Hadleigh Ford, founder, and CEO.

A new initiative they are trialing is half-day Fridays, where every fortnight it’s “tools down” at lunchtime for the entire team and they’re free to use their afternoon however they like. That works out to an extra day off per month and 12 days extra a year.
