Chamber launches this year’s Westpac Tauranga Awards

In late May, the Tauranga Chamber launched this year’s Westpac Tauranga Business Awards. This key event for local businesses will be held on Friday, 8 November, at the Trustpower Baypark Arena.

The Online Entry process opens on Monday, 1 July, following seminars in June to help potential entrants to prepare. Entries will close on Thursday, 12 September.

All businesses and not-for-profit organisations can enter themselves and any business or organisation can enter one category in its own right, or one sector category and one specialty category. Judges will have the discretion to consider all entries as contenders for any of the specialty categories, as well as for the Westpac Tauranga Business of the Year Award. There is no prior notification of finalists, which will be announced along with the winners on the night.

Categories again include: Retail Excellence, Manufacturing and/or Distribution, Emerging Business, Manufacturing, Construction and Distribution, Tourism/Hospitality, Service Excellence, Social Enterprise, Embracing Digital Technology, Excellence in Sustainable Business Practices, Customer Experience, ACC Workplace Safety Award, Business Innovation Award, Corporate Leadership, and the Westpac Business of the Year.

Last year’s overall Westpac Tauranga Business of the Year was Jenkins Freshpac Systems Limited.

Chamber organiser Anne Pankhurst said that following the launch of the Westpac Tauranga Business Awards 2019, the chamber was already receiving a heightened level of interest in entering the awards.

“This stems from an understanding of the importance of benchmarking your business, and having that independent assessment of your business,” she said.

“More and more people are understanding the importance to their business that assessment brings, and using the awards entry process to achieve that. Of course there is always that opportunity to be a winner and to have the added benefit of team buy-in and extra publicity that winning brings.”
