C2 Design celebrates 10 years

Founded in 2015 by Rachel Cleverly, architectural design studio C2 Design is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The studio has evolved from a solo operation into a six-strong team.

“It’s a huge achievement to reach this milestone. I’ve had great support from my team, with many staff long-serving. It’s been great to see their growth as well,” says Rachel.

The studio’s comprehensive service offering spans residential and commercial architectural design; with projects ranging from bespoke homes to innovative workspaces, renovations and commercial developments.

C2 Design’s all-female team brings a unique perspective to architectural and interior design, says Rachel. “We delve into how people are living in their homes and understanding this on a deep level. We really go into a lot of detail during the initial brief stage.”

Rachel’s journey to establishing C2 Design began with a Diploma in Interior Design from Unitec, Auckland, followed by two years working with an architectural firm in England. Upon returning to New Zealand, she gained valuable experience in her family’s residential and commercial building company, obtaining a Mitek COC qualification and later her Design LBP.

This combination of interior design expertise and practical construction knowledge has helped shape the studio’s approach. Rachel is also an Executive Member of ADNZ (Architectural Designers New Zealand), reflecting her leadership within the industry.

As her team has grown, Rachel has enjoyed the opportunity to mentor and encourage the careers of several talented women.

The company’s longest-standing team member, Kelsey Garfitt, has been with C2 Design almost since the beginning.

“Starting as an intern while working towards her Diploma in Architectural Technology she quickly demonstrated her potential, earning her place as a valued team member,” says Rachel.

Carley O’Connell, with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Architecture (Prof) under her belt, brings a keen eye for detail and design to every project.

“Carly enjoys getting to know the client and working collaboratively with the project team,” Rachel confirms.

Since graduating in 2012 with a Diploma in Architectural Technology, Brittany Spencer has enjoyed creating homes and spaces that make client’s lives easy and comfortable. She became a Licensed Building Practitioner in 2021.

However, no business would be complete without a fantastic backing crew. Executive Assistant Renee Hollard excels at bringing calm from chaos she provides perfect support to Rachel and her busy team. Jennie Campbell rounds out the team, managing accounts and payroll for the company.

The C2 Design team blends creative vision with expertise, practicality and technical knowhow to every project and will guide you through each stage of the architectural process. Rachel says “At C2 Design we simply love what we do and we’re really looking forward to the next ten years.”
