Eve Bachellier – building exceptional relationships

Eve Bachellier
Recent years have tested local businesses. Thankfully, BDO Tauranga has been stepping up to support locals and cut challenges down to size.

To achieve our dreams by building a successful business we need to be brave when facing the hard times as well as the good. When business leaders need support, advice and encouragement, Eve Bachellier comes into her own.

A chartered accountant and associate at BDO Tauranga, Eve draws on experience across (but not limited to) the horticulture, manufacturing and construction industries. She is most passionate about working with businesses facing change and uncertainty.

“Sometimes people simply need a chat to organise their thoughts and have someone reinforce the key issues,” she says. “At other times, I’m happy to investigate things further, deal with compliance headaches or help with next step decision making.”

Eve joined the BDO Tauranga office in 2014 and has accumulated more than 18 years’ experience in business advisory services. She manages the Corporate Finance & BRIS (Business Restructuring & Insolvency Services) team with support from the wider BDO network in New Zealand and internationally. Building connections and community is a primary focus for her.

“I love the human connection and friendships that develop as part of my job – they drive me to work harder to make a difference,” Eve says. “I care about doing what’s right, providing valuable advice and, ultimately, helping people through tough situations.”

During the past year, Eve has seen local businesses facing regular business concerns, such as struggling with cashflow and disputes that have impacted trading. Another common challenge comes about when business leaders are unaware of the size of a new project or problem and, therefore, underestimate the scale of resources required.

Eve’s tips for business leaders who are navigating these challenges include:

  • Seek professional advice early and don’t let problems accumulate
  • Use your advisor as a sounding board for plans and proposed ideas – a quick run through may alert you to risks down the track
  • Seek practical and realistic steps to improving cashflow positions

Advice should be tailored to suit your business. Supporting business owners requires an understanding of the particular ebbs and flows according to the season and the market in which a business is operating. Eve emphasises the importance of keeping an open mind when advising her clients, which helps ensure they receive the best possible outcomes.

“People have complex lives and motivations, and I need to be open to options for the best way forward.”
