Richard built his experience in Wellington and Melbourne before joining Sharp Tudhope in 2017, becoming a partner within the first year of being with the firm.
Since arriving in Tauranga, Richard has leveraged his first-class experience to establish himself as a leading lawyer in the mid-market mergers and acquisitions field and as a lawyer of choice to Tauranga’s start-up community.
Richard was recognised in NZ Lawyer’s inaugural ‘Rising Stars’ list in 2020, a list recognising up and coming stars in the legal profession who are committed to making a difference.
Richard specialises in mergers and acquisitions and since 2018 has led mid-market M&A deals with an aggregate deal value in excess of $350m.
In addition to Richard’s legal work, he is an active supporter of Tauranga’s early stage and growth company scene. Richard currently chairs the Board of EA GP Limited, the General Partner for several angel investment funds established by Enterprise Angels.
In the community, Richard has helped establish and now provides pro-bono legal and advisory services to Stem Wana Trust, which promotes and delivers
the Tauranga STEM Festival and operates the Tinkd Makerspace.
Within Sharp Tudhope, Richard has been active in promoting growth at the firm, building depth and expertise by recruiting four new senior lawyers (one Partner and three senior associates) in the last 24 months, each with top tier credentials. Richard has also promoted and is actively involved in the firm’s graduate recruitment programme.
Richard’s goal is to build on the firm’s 125 year plus history and ensure it remains well positioned to serve its people, clients, and the broader community for a long time yet.
